Petra Carlsson
I work as a Project Assistant for Prof. Susanne Åkesson in the field of migration ecology and the evolution of migration. The work involves performing experiments and collecting data in the field, data processing, laboratory work preparing tests and analyzing results using GIS. I am also working with the Swifts that returns to the Ecology house every spring/summer and their migration, among other tasks.
I hold a M.Sc in Biology from Göteborg University and a MRes in Primatology from Roehampton University, UK.
My Master thesis focused on comparing caterpillar occurrence during day and night from two tree species in rainforests. The fieldwork was conducted in Santa Rosa National Park, Costa Rica.
My Master of Research focused on terminal branch use in red colobus monkeys. An intraspecific comparison was made between positional behaviour and substrate use in lightly logged and heavily logged rainforests. The fieldwork was conducted in Kibale National Park, Uganda.
As a biologist my main interests are behavioral ecology and conservation. I am always looking to learn more about different fields of biology as I think this is important to conservation and the preservation of biodiversity in the wild. This is one of the reasons why I am very excited about this role involving migration ecology in wild animals.
