My research focuses on induced defence compromises in multiple threat situations. I study behavioural and phenotypic responses of two crustacean zooplankton taxa, Daphnids and copepods, to predation and ultraviolet (UV) radiation. I do this by using the newly developed technique within nanoscience where small 2-3 mm scale organisms, like zooplankton, can be tracked using small nanoscale fluorescent quantum dots (Qdots).
This technique allows us to separate individuals or groups of individuals when studying e.g. migratory patterns and gives us the possibility to ask questions that have previously been impossible to address due to methodological constraints.
