Jannika Boström
M.Sc. at Lund University during spring 2006 with the thesis "Orientation cage experiments with displaced juvenile wheatears (Oenanthe oenanthe) in the high Arctic". Accepted as a PhD student in August 2006 with the project title "Genetic migration programs and orientation in songbirds". My supervisor is Susanne Åkesson and Staffan Bensch is co-supervisor.
My work so far has focused on fat accumulation in wheatears exposed to magnetic displacements and has involved comparisons between different populations and age classes. These studies have been carried out in cooperation with researchers at Stockholm University. Apart from the work with the wheatears I have also performed orientation cage experiments with garden warblers (Sylvia borin) to investigate possible differences in compass calibration in this species throughout the migration season.
