My research interest lies within Conservation Ecology with special emphasis on biodiversity in the agricultural landscape. I find it very exciting to work with issues regarding both animals, nature, landscapes and humans, and how to combine these to get the best possible result, that is farmland rich in all kinds of biodiversity!
I have started a large-scale experiment in which I create new biotopes according to a prescription developed by the Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust in England. The prescription is designed with the aim of using it to restore grey partridge populations in Britain. I want to test whether this can work here in Skåne as well, but also whether it can benefit other farmland biodiversity. In other words, I want to see if the grey partridge can work as a bio indicator: where there's plenty of grey partridges, there's also plenty of other species.
The grey partridge is a red listed species that has shown a strong decrease in both numbers and distribution since the mid 1900s. I will dig a bit deeper into the reasons behind this decline by investigating the correlation between game bag records and changes in the agricultural landscape. these changes I will measure from aerial photographs from specific time periods.
